Col. Lawan Gwadabe- Military Historian and Strategist. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Military History and two Masters of Arts Degrees in International Relations and History respectively from the Oklahoma State University, in the United States.
Col. Lawan Gwadabe has an impressive Military career, graduating from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy with a Regular Combatant Commission in the rank of Second Lieutenant on September 9th 1972 with Seniority in the same rank with effect from April 16t, 1970. He rose to the substantive rank of a Colonel in 1991.
Col. Gwadabe has attended many professional courses, including the Command and Staff College, Jaji. He served in various strategic Military postings, which include: Battalion Training Officer; Battalion Adjutant; ADC to Commander Lagos Garrison Organization; Assistant Deputy Military Secretary (AHQMS) Adjutant, Nigerian Defence Academy; Colonel GS Directorate of Armour and Colonel GS Lagos Garrison Command.
Colonel Gwadabe was Managing Director, Nigerian National Shipping Lines and thereafter held a distinguished tenure as Military Governor of Niger State from1987-1991. In the wake of his positing he was appointed the Commander of the Nigerian National Guard. Other postings include: Principal Staff Officer to the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He was posted as the Chief of Army Staff of the Gambian National Army. His last posting before retirement was Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade Yola. Gwadabe was also appointed the Chairman of the Federal Road Safety Corps in 2009.
Col. Gwadabe as the PSO to the Head of State and C-in-C, was the most towering influential and charismatic figure in the Villa. He was unquestionably, the Administration’s ideas man, setting the pace as well as it’s agenda. Col Gwadabe used all his personal connections at home and abroad to buy time for the Administration in the aftermath of June 12. What was more, he did everything humanly possible to give the government a good image and wanted people to appreciate the expediency and the inevitability of its emergence. This definitely gave the government some respite from general hostility and non-cooperation.
Col. Lawan Gwadabe a committed patriot, visionaire and philanthropist has had fundamental assignment in conflict resolutions as Nigerian Special Envoy to the troubled African States of Angola, Mozambique and was indeed for four years1986-1991, Chairman of the Sudan Peace Process which provided the blue print for the Abuja Accord that formed the framework for the eventual resolution of the conflict resulting in the two countries settlement.
